The "AIS PRI-Sim"
Judgmental Use of Force Training Simulator

Realistic Firearms Training Conducted at
Your Department!
The Griffin Police Department Training Division
offers judgmental use of force training with the state of the
art AIS-PRISM mobile training simulator. The PRISM Simulator offers
“As Real As it Gets” training for your officers by
providing them with realistic scenarios that both mentally and
physically challenge the student to perform at their best. Best
of all…….. we bring the training to you!

The AIS-PRISM “As Real As it Gets”
System
The system itself uses video of real people acting
as role players in various scenarios. The scenarios vary from
“shoot” to “no shoot” and can be manipulated
by the instructor to have various endings based on the performance
of the student. For example a scenario may be viewed that calls
for the student to use deadly force. The exact same scenario may
be viewed by another student and end in a non-deadly force situation.
The weapons that we provide for the simulator are
actual weapons that operate utilizing “airmunitions”.
The weapons fire, recoil, eject casings, and utilize magazines
for loading and reloading. Unlike other air systems, these weapons
are not attached to air hoses. By not being tied to an air hose
the student can move freely in the simulator without stumbling
or tripping, load and reload when necessary, use cover, and respond
in “As real as it Gets” scenarios. We provide weapons
manufactured by:
- Glock
- Sig-Sauer
- Smith & Wesson
The AIS-PRISM System utilizes the patented “Shootback”
system which allows the simulator to “shootback” at
the student using high speed plastic projectiles. This makes the
student realize the importance of cover and how to properly utilize
it.
A great benefit in this training is the ability
to capture the actions of the student on video where they can
be reviewed immediately and critiqued. The instructor will show
the video to the student, breaking their actions down step by
step allowing the student to make corrections in their use of
force judgment, verbal commands, cover/concealment, shooting techniques,
and tactics.
At the end of each scenario we provide a printout
of the individual student’s performance on the scenarios
presented to them. This printout can become part of the student’s
training file.
Why train in Judgmental use of force?
Based on Georgia POST rule 7.9 and Supreme Court
Decisions regarding the requirement to provide a “Realistic,
Judgmental component to deadly force training”. “Range
training alone (Standard Qualification) will not meet the minimum
constitutional test of “Deliberate Indifference” (City
of Canton v. Harris)
In Zuchel v. City and County of Denver, The Court
held that the defendants were “Deliberately Indifferent”
to the need for better use of force training for its officers
and that failure to teach strategic judgmental training rendered
the defendant’s firearms training “grossly inadequate”.
