Uniform
Patrol Division

The Uniform Patrol Division
is the backbone of field operations for the Griffin Police Department
and is made up of about 45 out of the 100+ sworn officers within
the department. Those assigned to this division are assigned
to one of three different shifts and are responsible for responding
to calls for service, conducting preventive patrol, initial
investigations at crime scenes, the protection of life and property,
maintaining the peace as well as enforcing the criminal and
traffic laws of the City of Griffin and the State of Georgia.
Each patrol shift is supervised by one lieutenant, a sergeant
and up to four corporals. The division is overseen by a major
and one captain, who also serves as the department training
officer. The Traffic unit as well as Civilian Code Enforcement
and Animal Control officers employed by the department also
fall under the purview of the Patrol Division Major. Patrol
shifts work 10 hrs. per day, 4 days a week with rotating off
days. Normal shifts run from 7:30am to 5:30pm, 4:00pm to 2:00am
and 10:00pm to 8:00am providing at least 30 minutes of overlapping
patrol coverage throughout the city three times per day.
